Taking care of children can be bad for a family. The relation in a family might depend upon how much time they spend with each other, but it become worse when parents are not aware whether what they are doing is reasonable for everyone in the family or not. Helicopter parenting has a negative consequence to families because children may be unable to have positive thinking and parents cannot manage their time properly. Helicopter parenting tends to cause children not to have good attitudes towards other people and to have negative thinking. As Nelson point out that a recent research of college freshmen by a psychologist at Keene State College shows that children with helicopter parents tend to less communicate with other children because they might be too shy to speak to other children. Also, they do not dare to make friends with the children whose age is the same.
Overprotective Parenting Ruining Society Parenting techniques or methods of raising children have evolved over history. In the last 30 years the scientific and medical communities have put parenting and its effects under a microscope. This problem has reached an all time high within the last years Gibbs 2. These hovering parents have been linked to social development problems, psychological illness, and in later life heart problems, criminal behavior, and attempted suicide. Overprotective parenting is detrimental to both the child and society.
My own experience with helicopter parents yields a point that is both similar and different. What I take away from my own experience with helicopter parents is that many parents hover over their children because they feel their kids have found things of better interest. As a result, I conclude that helicopter parents are not seen for their benefits but only their downfalls.
A college thesis on parenting styles must rely on your original research and ideas. You can build from existing definitions for parenting styles. She divided parenting behavior into controlling managing or warm acceptance, responsiveness behaviors. The four styles of parenting defined by Baumrind are: authoritative firm, but warm , authoritarian firm and controlling , permissive warm, not controlling and uninvolved not warm or controlling. Using this foundation, you can choose which style is more appropriate for the focus of your thesis.
